Medicare helps cover a wide range of medical costs, but when it comes to vision care, it can fall a bit short. Things like glasses, contact lenses and prescription sunglasses aren’t covered by Medicare, so many turn to private health funds to help cover those costs.
At Eyestore in Bankstown, we’ll help you maximize your claim so that you get the greatest optical bang for your buck.
What Does Medicare Cover?
Medicare cardholders have access to:
- A comprehensive eye test every three years for adults under 65 years of age
- A comprehensive eye test once a year for people aged 65+
- Contact lens consultations
- Regular eye tests those with eye conditions, such as glaucoma or macular degeneration
Does Medicare cover all eye tests?
It’s important to note that there are some exceptions to what eye tests Medicare will cover. For instance, costs may be higher for more specialized eye tests, such as tests for contact lenses, vision therapy, or dry eye.
How About Private Health Funds?
While eye tests are rarely covered by private health insurance, frames, prescription lenses, and contact lenses may be covered up to 100%.
